Apprenticeships are great – and we should know!
Both of our partners, Wendy and Nicola, started their careers as office juniors, as apprentices were then called, and have never looked back.
Now, we’re on the hunt for two apprentices to come and work in our Middlesbrough office, learning everything there is to know about being an estate agent, while being paid at the same time.
Wendy said: “Nicola and I started at Thirlwells, as Clarke Munro was then known, straight from school at age 16 - and now we own the company!
“That means we really know the value and advantages of starting your career journey at a young age and so, in fact, do many of the team; the majority of staff have been here for over 10 years and also started from leaving school.
“We’re looking to extend this opportunity to another two school leavers and the successful candidates will join onto our apprenticeship training programme through Profound.”
What you’ll do
The role is incredibly wide-ranging; you’ll learn absolutely everything there is to know about working in an estate agents and the housing market, and no two days will be the same.
Duties include:
- Filing
- Making tea (very important!)
- Taking telephone messages
- Inputting information into estate agency software
- Checking keys weekly
- Opening and distributing the post
- Getting keys ready
- Confirming appointments for viewings
- Keeping window displays updated
What you’ll need
Obviously, we’re not looking for bags of experience. What we are looking for, however, is enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a good attitude.
Nicola said: “We’ll expect you to muck in with anything and everything, even down to running errands for the team, like posting letters or picking up office supplies.
“An apprenticeship means starting at the bottom, so if you do it without complaining, you’ll go far – just look where we ended up.”
What you’ll get
As this is a paid position, you’ll get a weekly wage in line with current apprenticeship requirements.
More importantly, you’ll get lots of valuable experience, along with plenty of support, camaraderie and a chance to learn from people who have been exactly where you are now.
You never know, one day, all this could be yours.
